Remit of the archive

Two kilometres of documents, 2.5 million photos and slides, 4,000 books and 1,700 hours of video material – the Porsche AG Historical Archive is a repository of all important information that has an economic, technical, social or cultural connection to Porsche AG.

It is not some dingy storage space, but rather a resource designed to expand knowledge about the brand for the purposes of historical public relations work, and for sharing information with Porsche fans all over the world.

This goal is fulfilled via the company’s own publications, as well as through the communication of historical content at exhibitions, trade fairs and other events. In addition, Porsche Archive employees process over 6,000 requests from internal departments, journalists, scientists and authors of books on development, motorsport and the company’s history.

Another key area of importance for the archive is legal issues: if needed, the archive can be consulted to gather information about previous cases. After all, the company archive represents the memory of Porsche AG.

Hidden treasures

The Porsche archive's holdings now cover some 2,000 metres of shelf space - stored in bookshelves, showcases, steel cabinets and safes.

Instead of depriving you of the opportunity to see the treasures hidden there, we'd like to give you the chance to find out more about selected highlights from the Porsche archive.

The restart of the museum operations are in line with the requirements of the Federal Government and the State of Baden-Württemberg for protection against infection with the coronavirus. This includes, for example, a new guidance system in the entire building to ensure a minimum distance of 1.50 m between visitors. We kindly ask for your understanding that for your protection and that of our employees, we will limit the number of visitors to 250 by a controlled entrance.

We also provide face masks and disinfectants during your visit at the Porsche museum. In order to ensure that everything runs smoothly on site and that the specifications are respected, we would ask you to follow the illustrated instructions both in front of as well as in the Porsche Museum.
